New Australian Research Explains Why Learning Music Makes Kids Smarter

Learning Music Makes Kids Smarter

7 News Reports that New Australian research has revealed school kids who play music are better learners, triggering a call for state governments to employ music teachers in every classroom. The research outcomes confirm research done into this subject for 30 years now. “The headline was the same then as it is now” said AMA CEO Rob Walker. “It was considered perhaps a simplistic summary of the original research, but subsequent studies keep confirming that students perform better in their other educational pursuits alongside a music education”

Professor Caldwell’s research involved some of the most disadvantaged schools in Australia in western Sydney, finding students studying in the arts, particularly music, gained a year in literacy scores, compared to students who were not studying music or the arts.
